The Battle For Control Of Iran . . . Begins In Space
When a disgraced former Iranian military chief of staff engineers an insurgency that threatens to destroy the theocratic regime in Iran, a new era appears to be dawning in the Middle East. But one must be wary of old enemies . . .
On the run from the Pasdaran, the theocrat's terror army, and unable to count on support from his friends in the regular army, Iranian rebel leader General Hesarak al-Kan Buzhazi desperately turns to his old nemesis, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant-General Patrick McLanahan, for help. Unwilling to commit American forces in an Iranian civil war, and with time running out, the U.S. president authorizes McLanahan to utilize a new, top-secret fleet of globe-crossing spaceplanes, the XR-A9 Black Stallions, led by test pilot and astronaut Captain Hunter Noble. Within hours, McLanahan's Air Battle Force turns the tide, possibly changing the course of history in the Middle East for generations.
The advent of almost instantaneous global reach, along with the reactivation of America's first military space station, Silver Tower, has rekindled fears of a space arms race, and the growing insurgency in Iran is threatening to erupt into a worldwide jihad. But McLanahan finds himself embroiled in even more bitter battles at the White House, between those who support his space-based military initiative and those who are working secretly to undermine it. When McLanahan is forced to concentrate on his political and personal battles back at home, it's left to Hunter Noble and his team of young American space engineers to keep the fires of freedom in the Middle East from exploding completely out of control.
Filled with the latest cutting-edge weaponry, geopolitical intrigue, high-flying suspense, and a colorful cast of characters, Strike Force is New York Times bestselling master Dale Brown at his best.

Atari's 'Act Of War: Direct Action(TM)' Receives Backing From General Barry
McCaffrey, USA (RET)
Wednesday January 28 2005
Highly Decorated Army Officer and National Security Advisor Lends Expertise
and Insight to Game
BEVERLY, Mass., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Drawing on the knowledge of one of
the most highly decorated general officers ever to serve in the US Army,
Atari announced that it has retained General Barry McCaffrey, USA (Ret.) to
offer his feedback and direction on the Company's acclaimed, Act of War:
Direct Action(TM), a real-time military strategy game for the PC. Written by
former U.S. Air Force captain and The New York Times best-selling author
Dale Brown, Act of War: Direct Action is a geopolitical techno-thriller set
in the near- future that outlines a plausible "what-if" scenario involving
an organized terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
"The subtleties of the game are as important as the game play itself, and we
were looking for an expert who could provide both a military and counter-
terrorist perspective, and we have certainly received that with General
McCaffrey," said Erik Gerson, senior vice president of Marketing for Atari.
"Act of War: Direct Action mirrors the changing mission of today's military
from one of traditional warfare to that of state-sponsored terrorism, and
having been at the forefront of both, General McCaffrey brings an unparallel
knowledge base to our development team."
"Today's games provide such a compelling form of entertainment and
technology enabling developers to produce intricately realistic programs,
and Act of War: Direct Action is a shining example of that," said General
Barry McCaffrey. "The developer has done an astonishing job of capturing all
aspects of unconventional warfare and when combined with the story of Dale
Brown and the recognizable, U.S. settings, the result is a game of sobering
magnitude."
Act of War: Direct Action is a frighteningly plausible tale of suspense,
international intrigue and geopolitical military conflict. Through a techno-
thriller story constructed by military expert and author Dale Brown, this
real-time strategy experience puts players squarely in control of
counterterrorist forces to defend cities of the world. As commander of a
newly formed anti-terror military unit known as the Talon Task Force,
players will need to recruit combat units, develop technologies, manage
finite resources, and deploy their forces against a cunning and ruthless
terror network.
Developed by Eugen Systems, Act of War: Direct Action is scheduled to
release this March for the personal computer at a suggested retail price
$49.99.

military career, he served overseas for thirteen years and completed four

New York Times best-selling author scripts the storyline from Atari’s forthcoming techno-thriller RTS...
Atari today announced that New York Times best-selling author, Dale Brown, will script a storyline for its
forthcoming near-future, geopolitical techno-thriller, Act of War: Direct Impact.
As revealed in screenshots featured alongside our recent interview with the team at Eugen Systems, the
storyline will be set out across nearly an hour’s worth of original, live-action feature film footage courtesy
of SWAT Films/Beyond FX.
Shot across a two-week period and featuring a cast of 10 principal actors and hundreds of extras, the
footage will be blended in with scenes created by the in-game engine to depict the story of Jason Richter
and Task Force Talon, as they discover a web of intrigue and terrorism that spans across the globe from
Washington to Moscow and taking tea with the Queen at Buckingham Palace (ok so maybe not tea).
"SWAT Films theatrical interpretation of Dale Brown's intense story gives Act of War: Direct Action(TM)
a dramatic sense of authenticity and creates a truly immersive entertainment experience," said Bob Welch,
Executive Producer for Atari's Beverly studio. "By bringing together a novelist, filmmakers and game
developers, Act of War: Direct Action(TM) is more than the sum of its parts."
"Producing nearly an hour of live-action film, as well as special effects for Atari's Act of War: Direct
Action(TM) was an exciting creative challenge," said Daniel LeBlanc, Executive Producer, SWAT Films.
"Our team had to produce film content to tell the game's story in the traditional between-levels format
while also sharing with players what was going on behind the scenes with voiceover and shorter film clips
streamed to players mid-game. The goal was to draw them in with the story and let the game blow them
away and there's no doubt we've done just that."
Whilst live-action FMV sequences have virtually been drummed out of videogames since the invention
and prompt extinction of “interactive movie” games akin to Night Trap and Sewer Shark and the
subsequent failure of the Command & conquer series, we’re hoping that those featured within Act of War
will heighten the atmosphere and not leave us with tears of laughter as is usually the case.

The unthinkable is about to happen in this high-flying novel of adventure
and suspense.
In Air Battle Force, Dale Brown introduced U.S. Air Force aerial warfare
expert Major General Patrick McLanahan and
his air combat unit of the future. Armed with a force of these robotic
planes, the general and a handful of commandos were
secretly deployed to the oil-rich nation of Turkmenistan to stop a Taliban
invasion. And though the Americans won the battle, the war is far from over....
To punish McLanahan and his fleet of robot warplanes for their audacity,
Russian president General Anatoliy Gryzlov decides to do the unthinkable: a
sneak attack on America-unlike anything ever believed possible-that devastates her
strategic air forces.
McLanahan has collected information that not only foretold the Russians'
daring plan, but also gave him the data he
needs to plan a counterstrike that could stop the Russian war machine dead
in its tracks. But Patrick is no longer in charge
of Air Battle Force, and the Russian sneak attack has left the embattled
U.S. president with few options: retaliate with
every weapon in his arsenal, even if it triggers a global thermonuclear
war, or to a cease fire on Russia's terms...
...or listen to a disgraced and discredited young bomber commander's
long-shot plan of attack.
"The novels of Dale Brown brim with violent action, detailed descriptions of
sophisticated weaponry and political intrigue... His ability to bring technical
weaponry to life is amazing." --San Francisco Chronicle

Maverick Pilot Patrick McLanahan Takes aerial warfare into
unknown territory in a heart racing new adventure.
Still smarting from recent losses, the brilliant but unpredictable former USAF
Major General is accepted back into the fold and assigned a simple task: devise
and build the air combat unit of the future. McLanahan's answer: the Air Battle
Force - a rapid-response team of elite commandos protected by state-of-the-art
body armour and supported by an armada of anmanned planes.
His idea is soon put to the test when the oil rich Republic of Turkmenistan
becomes a battleground between Taliban insurgents, former Soviet overlords,
Iranian opportunists and American oil companies and politicians. But can a
handful of commandos half a world away, aided by an unproven force of robat
warplanes, fight and win a war in which semingly everyone - even 'friendly'
forces at home - want them to fail?
'Whe a former pilot turns his hand to thrillers you can take their authenticity
for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters
are first-class... far too good to be missed.'

Military-action thriller roaster Brown (Warrior Class) ignites a
Middle East powder keg and drops an unsanctioned special
ops corps of retired U.S. military officers armed with new
superweapons into the mix in his best outing yet. Forcibly
retired Air Force Gen. Patrick McClanahan leads the
Nightstalkers on secret humanitarian ops. His latest contract,
from Big Oil, is to destroy missile sites set up by Libyan
president Zuwayy, a Muslim fanatic who deposed Khadafy
and wants Egypt's president; the president's widow, former
American air force pilot Susan Bailey Salaam, barely escapes.
Patrick's team attacks during the uproar and destroys the
missiles, but many soldiers are captured, including Patrick's
wife, Wendy. Susan, wildly popular in Egypt, decides to run
for president and sees the Night Stalkers as her secret weapon
against Zuwayy's aggression. Needing a base from which to
rescue Wendy, Patrick agrees to help Susan take action when
a deadly nerve gas wipes out an Egyptian army post.
Meanwhile, the Night Stalkers' weapons lab in Nevada is
facing a coup led by the parents of a child science prodigy
who takes laser weapons to a new level and gives the Stalkers
a deadly edge. Brown's knack for action allows him to set a
speedy pace that doesn't let up until the shocker ending. The
politics and Middle East setting are spot on; the superweapons
are eye-openers; and the villains deliciously evil-but the
election of a women, much less an American woman, as
president of Egypt and head of the Muslim Brotherhood defies
credibility. Still, it's a white-knuckle read from start to finish.
